Quest #128 P-P-Pick Up a Pickaxe - Stornway Castle

Quest Requirements: Bring the Thug a Platinum Pick from a Darkonium Slime enemy (found in high level Ruins Grotto)

Quest Pre-Requirements: Completed Side Quest #007 and Access to DLC Quests

Reward: Mighty Armlet

This quest begins by speaking with the Thug in the Stornway Castle well (located in the eastern portion of Stornway Castle). In order to accept this quest you'll first need to have completed Side Quest #007 from this same NPC. Additionally you will also need Dragon Quest IX's DLC enabled to accept this quest.

For this quest you'll need to do high level Grotto dungeons with 'Ruins' in their name until you run into a Drakonium Slime enemy (screenshot below). These enemies will drop the Platinum Pick that you need for this quest.

If you're unfamiliar with Grottos and would like to learn more about them I would recommend reading my Walkthrough Chapter 9 which covers all of the different post game content in Dragon Quest IX. The Grottos that this specific enemy is found in are very difficult for any party under level 70 and depending on your classes and gear they may be difficult even over that level.

After handing the thug the pick the screen will go black and in front of you where the crack used to be there will now be a large hole. Go inside of it and follow the hallway to the end where you'll find a coffin that gives off some serious vampire vibes.

Speak with the thug in this room to successfully complete this quest. This coffin is actually part of Side Quest #137 but we still have a few more quests to do before we can even accept that quest.
